Final Points to consider

•	Cash flow – you will require a ´float´ of small change/cash
•	Who will be your bursar?
•	Each student must submit their contributions through the bursar.
•	Each bursar must record all transactions!
•	Only money registered in your accounts will be counted towards overall totals.
•	What is plan B? Poor weather/sales
•	What are your margins and does the whole team know the bottom line?
•	Marketing – next week will be your best opportunity to begin to advertise your product and generate interest in the primary school.
•	Each group must design posters and ´visit´ Year 5 and 6 to sell your product.

TIPS FOR EXAMS

Start your revision early. It is often the case that you will need more time than you think.

Create a revision timetable with sensible work slots and breaks and then show it to your parents and tutor to get their agreement. Stick to this timetable!

Organise yourself, your notes and your textbooks.

Choose a revision location that is comfortable, well-lit and quiet. Keep all materials –pens, textbooks, paper, etc- within easy reach.

Look at different revision methods and choose one that suits you (different styles differ from child to child).

Take regular breaks. Do not overload yourself.

Keep healthy –eat well and make sure you get enough sleep during the run up to your exams. Exercise regularly.

Be sure to cut down on your weekend/evening social life.

Set yourself achievable targets and reward yourself when you meet them.

Prepare items needed for the exam the evening before. Make sure you have the correct equipment needed for the exam (calculators, rulers, etc). Your exam invigilator should remind you of what you are and are not allowed before the exam starts.

Keep bullet points on cards highlighting main subject theories. Use them for quick revision and for reading during “dead” times.

Make up rhymes or sayings to help you remember things (these are called mnemonics).

Some people revise well by listening, so you could try “talking” your revision and recording it onto your iPod or onto tapes. Listen to this while lying in bed, while travelling in a car, etc.

On the morning of the exam, have a good breakfast, stay calm and allow plenty of time to get to the exam. Remember that you can only do your best.

Always ask your teacher for help if you are having trouble understanding something.

Use the internet. There are great revision websites (http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks3bitesize/. Ask your teachers for any websites for each particular subject.

Dear Key Stage 4!

We have only one week to go before your crucial EASTER HOLIDAYS begin. All students must download and create a 3 week revision timetable which will take you up to the first day back after the Easter Holidays.
This must be signed by your parents and submitted to me on Monday the 26th of March.

There is so little time left between now and the start of the exams that your EASTER HOLIDAYS are extremely important.

Please ensure that this timetable is SPECIFIC to your individual strengths and weaknesses (subjects that require most of your attention), is REALISTIC in accepting days when you will be unavailable or away. Also ensure that each session is time bound (45mins burst followed by 15min break) and no more than 3 to 4hrs per day.

Good luck,

The proposed EIC trip to Iceland (October half term next term), is open to all students who will at that time be in Year 10 or above. The trip will have obvious curriculum benefits for those students studying Geography and Physics. Described below are some the planned destinations also included at the bottom are links to further information regarding accommodation and Iceland itself.

Now one of Europe’s most popular destinations, Iceland has natural features in abundance, including icecaps and glaciers, hot springs and geysers, volcanoes, lava flows, ash deserts, mighty rivers, thundering waterfalls and stunning coastlines.

Outline Itinerary

Heimaey

The 1973 eruption produced vast amounts of ash and lava over 5 months, covering buildings and roads and the lava threatening the fishing harbour. A walk to the crater of the volcano (still warm in places!) and across the lava flow is a major highlight. The Surtsey Exhibition, a round- island boat trip and the modern swimming pool are options. A whole day can be spent here, using the newly established ferry link.

Syllabus relevance: The Restless Earth; Tectonic Landscapes; Plate Tectonics and Hazards; The Challenge of Extreme Environments; Living with Natural Hazards.

Blue Lagoon

This mineral-rich lagoon is formed from geo-thermally heated sea water, located beside a geo-thermalenergy plant. A most vivid and startling sight, blue-green algae thrive and the white silica mud suspended in the water gives the lagoon its milky, aquamarine colour; all very therapeutic. There is a pummelling massage water- fall, several saunas and poolside buckets of silica mud to aid further rejuvenation! The surrounding peninsula offers stunning volcanic landscapes of craters, fissures, lava fields and mud puddles.

Syllabus relevance: The Physical World; Tectonic Landscapes; Energy issues; Energy Security; Tourism.

Geysir and Gullfoss

Visit this geo-thermal area of steam vents, hot springs and a beautiful turquoise blue pool. Strokkur Geysir, the very active star, erupts every 6 to 8 minutes. Great Geysir, now dor- mant, sometimes shows limited activity. An informative Interpretation Centre on volca noes and glaciers can be visited. Gullfoss is Iceland’s most famous waterfall; its hugely impressive milky white, glacial meltwater cascade drops 32m in a two-tiered cataract.

Thingvellir

Geographically and historically, Þingvellir is a World Heritage site. Here the European and North American plate boundary and its wide rift valley can be viewed (with long deep fissures – tension lines- running NE to SW). Also, the first democratic parliament in the world was established here in 930AD. This area is exceptionally beautiful in all seasons.
