We were so excited to be able to welcome parents back into school for the first time this academic year and Primary Sports Day was the perfect event with which to do this. The children had been working so hard in the lead up to this event and were thrilled to be able to show off the fruits of their labour. The weather was kind to us after a tempestuous period and with the sun out, the music on and Miss Harriet on the mic, the children were ready to show off their sporting skills on the big stage. The events were split up into Key Stages to enable us to comply with COVID protocol.
For KS1, this was their first real sports day at EIC as they missed out last year due to lockdown. There were some amazing performances, and it was special to se the sheer enjoyment on the faces of the children. They absolutely loved the “return to normal” feeling of the day and of course the atmosphere generated by a supportive audience did wonders to boost their confidence.
Sportsmanship was on display in abundance, school records were being smashed right, left and centre (see PE Firefly page) and there was so much shouting and cheering that it gave the event an almost festival-like feel. After six hours on the microphone, I’m amazed that Miss Harriet had any voice left!
The children even got to have a race off against their class teachers, which for many was the highlight of their day. I will not reveal the results of those races, but suffice to say the teachers are waiting to get their revenge in the pool during the Inter House Swimming Gala later this term. A huge thank you must go out to those teachers who willingingly put themselves forward for this task, we saw on the day how much this meant to the children.
I would also like to thank the parents for their continued support, you gave the event a real lift. Now, bring on the swimming gala!
