As part of our Year of Environmental Awareness, this week we ran an additional Eco Week. Today we took all Year 7 students to our local dunes which we sponsor through ProDunas. Accompanied by 5 members of staff, our eager mini Eco warriors walked down to the local beach to do some dune conservation work by eradicating the “Uña de gato” plant, an invasive plant that adversely affects the biodiversity of our local dunes. On our way to the beach, equipped with protective gloves, we managed to collect some plastic rubbish that was lying around by the path.
Once we had been instructed by the knowledgeable ProDunas team, our students fully embraced a House competition to see who could fill up their “uña de gato buckets” most often. We filled a whole skip with the invasive plant, ridding the dunes of nearly a ton of said plant. Our students have really done us proud.
Thanks to all teachers who accompanied me on this trip for ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.
