Year 3 visited The Food Room as part of their Science focus on food, diet and healthy eating. They were met by Mariola and her fabulous team, who reminded them of the importance of good hygiene, whilst getting them kitted up for the great cooking extravaganza to begin. During their session the children created the main elements of a three-course meal. Their first task was to make fresh pasta sheets, such as those used in lasagne. The children made their own individual fresh pasta dough, rolling it through a machine and then forming tagliatelle.
Excitement filled the room when the children realised they were going to make banana and chocolate chip bread next. Working together in small groups, they sliced, chopped, mashed, mixed and whisked the ingredients, following Mariola’s step-by-step instructions, to create a loaf. Whilst the bread was baking, the children created individual sausage and cheese pastry rolls, which went down an absolute treat. It was a fabulous trip and the children all agreed that the food tasted even better because they had cooked it all themselves. Delicious!
