The best of wishes to our Senior Debate Team who participate in the COBiS World Debating Championship. The 3 day event commences at 10.30am on Friday morning.
Nearly a 100 teams will be competing online in 2 pools in 2 time zones from, literally, around the world. From Caracas to Vienna, Dubai to Ukraine and moreover from Nigeria to The English International College, Marbella. We eagerly await the draw (to be announced).
We were very proud of our students who performed to EiC’s high expectations at the Winston Churchill Cup in Bucharest last November. Charles(Mr White) & Aisha (Miss Pink) (captains), Francesca (Miss Orange), Javier (Mr Brown), Julio (Mr Blue) and Elena (Miss Yellow) have been selected to represent EiC over the weekend. The challenge is a formidable one with students debating spontaneous motions & prepared motions including AI, Carbon Offsetting, & The Criminal Justice System.
We wish our students the best of luck. In these uncertain times where resolutions to pressing concerns and free speech seem increasingly obsolete. I would like to remind our students; “...It is better to debate a question without settling it, than to settle a question without debating it” - Joseph Joubert. The immediate global challenges at play transcends winning and losing any COBiS debate! Participating in this tournament provides a platform for our students to critically discuss some of the most pressing issues and global challenges. In the final analysis, our students will face them head on.
We wish them the very best of luck in this prestigious global competition event.
