On Monday, the 16th of November, two EIC senior debate teams returned home from Romania after competing in the revered Sir Winston Churchill Young Leaders Public Debating Competition, which included teams from Romania, Moldova, Spain, France, and Luxembourg. The two teams, EIC Blue and EIC White, debated with full EiC hearts in the qualifying rounds. Olivia’s (captain) EiC Team qualified for the final after winning their motion against the Cambridge School of Bucharest.
In the final, we competed against the Lycée Français, Charles de Gaulle, de Romania. With crafted arguments and rebuttals, the team did an amazing job in the "Team Proposition" of a difficult motion (This House Believes That Government Should Regulate The Internet). However, they ultimately finished runners-up in the competition after a contentious arbitration.
Students also immersed themselves in the rich tapestry of Romanian culture, visiting the People's Palace and exploring Bucharest's imperial and communist heritage during a 6-day cultural enrichment field trip. Also, a special mention to Adam, who was awarded 'Best Debater' in the competition. Of equal importance were the 17 students who immersed themselves in the competition and the cultural trip. They all demonstrated composure and statesmanship alongside a great sense of adventure and enthusiasm. The students were and are great ambassadors of our community.
