After a week of non-stop, albeit very much needed, rain, we were blessed with perfect Costa del Sol conditions and blue sky for our annual Inter-House Cross Country event. This is one of my favourite events of the year as we are lucky enough to host the event on our local beach, which is a mere 5-minute walk from the school grounds.
Reflecting on my own Cross Country days during a cold, wet, and dark Edinburgh Winter, I realise just how fortunate our students are. They enjoy beautiful golden, sandy beaches and an amazing 20ºC temperate climate with a lovely onshore breeze - the optimal running conditions possible and certainly a far cry from “Auld Reekie” in January!
The competition was intense, as each student challenged themselves to secure a spot in the top 5 for their age group. This accomplishment meant that they would be selected to represent the EIC at the International Schools event – what an honour!
Congratulations to all the children who participated. While the achievement of the top 5 was remarkable, I want to give a special shout-out to those students who didn't quite make it. You are the ones who pushed your peers into the top spots, relentlessly chasing them around the course. Despite not reaching the top, you consistently showed up, gave your best, trained diligently each week, and aimed to surpass your previous week's times. Most importantly, you never gave up. You completed the course, earned points for your House, and did yourselves proud. Well done!
The final scores were:
Tierra - 418
Agua - 391
Aire - 338
Fuego - 325
