The Science department organised a visit to CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, a captivating experience for anyone intrigued by the mysteries of the universe. A group of 20 Sixth Formers were fortunate enough to be allowed into the research centre and be guided and shown some of the facilities used to probe the origins of the Universe.
Our guide provided knowledge and insight into the groundbreaking research, including the discovery of the Higgs boson. Our guides, who were scientists themselves working at CERN, explained complex concepts, making sense of accelerators, detectors and particle physics.
We enjoyed exploring interactive exhibits at the CERN visitor center, where hands-on displays and multimedia presentations illustrate fundamental questions about matter, anti-matter, energy, the Quantum world and the Universe's origins.
Walking through the halls of CERN, you can feel the buzz of innovation and collaboration among researchers from around the globe. The atmosphere is electric with curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge. Our visit concluded with a sense of wonder, contemplating the immense scale of the Universe and our quest to understand it. For our students passionate about science, our trip to CERN was not just educational; it was an inspiring glimpse into the future of research and discovery. Hopefully our students will be inspired to reach for the stars!
