Flags flew high and drums did sound,
A carnival atmosphere all around.
From Tanzania to Brazil, India to Portugal,
Schools assembled to give their all.
Festivities finished and the pitches beckoned,
The crowd was gripped from the opening seconds.
Great goals, wonder saves and heroic blocks,
Wizards working magic inside each box.
Finals arrived and time stood still,
One last push, one piece of skill.
Final whistles blew and celebrations began,
Lifetime memories for every child, coach and fan.
Over 800 students from 33 global schools, from 18 different countries and 4 continents descended on Football Salou near Barcelona for the World School Games Football Cup. We took 18 students from EIC to represent U13 Boys and Girls in what can only be described as a feast of football!
The boys team finished runners up in their group and progressed to the Cup knockout stage where they were eliminated by the eventual champions Beth’s Grammar School from the UK. The girls topped their group and progressed all the way to the final where they narrowly lost to last year’s champions, Ovingham Middle School, also from the UK.
We are so proud of the effort, attitude and sportsmanship displayed by our students and hope they have made memories that they will cherish forever!
Mr. Foley
