On Tuesday 19th November it was the turn of the A-Level Drama students, Ellie, Paula and Millie, who had their first practical drama examination.
Their given stimulus was an extract from the award-winning play Angels in America by Tony Kushner. Inspired by the final line of their extract "Finally. The truth (...) It sets you free", they chose to create a piece of theatre based on this statement that revolved around revelations. They researched various criminal justice cases which led them to create a murder mystery, where everything is not quite what it seems. Their narrative explored a tragedy that strikes at Oxford university, with the disappearance of Mia, when a party at a secret society called The Shadowed Angels, turns the lives of three girls upside down. First year students, Maeve, Mallory and Michelle, find themselves fighting both their internal battles and the desperate need to find out the truth of what really happened to Mia, and could one of them have been involved?
The Year 13s given theatre practitioner, Frantic Assembly, equitably balance movement, music, technology and dialogue to portray characters and storylines, with their style inspiring the creation of the girls' own scenes and sequences. Their intention was to devise a gripping and thought-provoking piece where the audience was forced to question whether being truthful really does set you free?
They gave dedicated, engaging, focused and sophisticated portrayals on the day and deserve a huge well done and congratulations! They should be extremely proud of their hard work and achievements.
