On the first day, when we did a walking tour around Prague, it was amazing - a picture postcard of a city dissected by the River Vltava. We got the opportunity to see all the wonderful architecture reflecting its rich historical tapestry - it was both fun and informative. The tour guide, Lars, was amusing and a walking encyclopaedia of knowledge with a touch of dark humour.
On the second day, at the opening ceremony, we got to learn more in-depth about the UN, what it stands for. There were heart-rending addresses from the World Health Organisation and UNICEF. Additionally, the icebreaker events at venues around the city with fellow delegates were lots of fun.
On the third day, at the start of our "committee," we learned about the flow of a Model United Nations. We also got the opportunity to debate our allocated country's stance or "position," which was a great way to develop public speaking skills. We all gave salutary speeches and confidently addressed Points of Information. It was exciting throughout, and you never felt out of place. On the fourth day (and the second day of the committee), you had the chance to explore other stances on topics or "caucuses" that you might not normally research. There were also "punishments" for delegates, which were hilarious to watch, alongside committee gossip and note passing via the admin child runners from Park Lane Primary School, located in the heart of the old town bordering Prague Castle.
The social event that followed was a wonderful way to get to know people not in your committee; it was extremely enjoyable. Time flew by as you met people and made friends.
On the final day, at the closing ceremony, everyone got to see their hard work presented among all delegates. The "resolutions" and "bills," which took effort and compromise to create over the two days, were presented, and final amendments were ratified by the assembly.
Overall, the whole experience was unforgettable, offering a great opportunity to learn, have fun, and make friends. The entire trip was amazing, and everyone enjoyed it. Thank you to Mrs. Miller and Mr. Hickman for their efforts.
